My approach as a mental health counsellor is inclusive, relaxed and when appropriate humorous and playful.
I am an accredited mental health social worker and have a Bachelor of Psychology. I have worked in tertiary and community settings in rural and metropolitan areas for more than twelve years.
I have worked in a diversity of settings including; inpatient units, residential youth and adult programs, crisis response support, recovery-oriented care and clinical youth outreach programs.
I have worked with children, adults and families experiencing a diverse range of difficulties including, anxiety, depression, family violence, relationship difficulties/breakdowns, personality disorders/complex trauma, trauma, disordered eating, low self-esteem, substance misuse, and bi-polar.
Drawing on my extensive experience I am able to provide specialised mental health care and have a particular interest in working with young people and their supports, who are at risk of developing or are experiencing complex mental health difficulties.
My therapeutic approach is underpinned by trauma-informed practice and the recovery care model, focusing on collaboration and inclusivity.
I have a strong commitment to tailoring the support to each person’s individual needs, and therefore draw upon a variety of evidence-based approaches including the Collaborative Recovery Model, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative Therapy.
As a mental health counsellor, I am passionate about the accessibility of evidence-based mental health support for all regardless of economical or geographical positioning. This has motivated me to offer online support services.
